The History of Candles in Spiritual and Santeria Works

The burning of candles for spiritual works goes back to ancient times. Many spiritual workers believe that the flame of the candle pierces the veil between the physical and the Spiritual world and creates a passageway that allows the prayers and petitions to be more readily received by those from whom help is being sought out.

The use of candles in the Santeria Religon has its roots in the long tradition of Roman Catholic Church candle burning. The Lucumi religion originated in Nigeria by the Yoruba tribe, was exported to the New World when slavery began. The slaves were forced to stop the adoration of their gods and deities and embrace the Catholic Saints of their capturers. Fearing corporal punishment and even death the slaves practiced Christianity against their will. Soon they began finding similarities between their African deities and the Catholic Saints and thus began the synchronization between their African Religion and Catholicism. This is the practice known today as Santeria. Same as in the Catholic Religion, candle burning is an essential part of the Santeria tradition.

Santeria Love Spell

Day to perform: Friday (the Venus day)

Angelic Hour to Perform: Uriel.

Moon phase: New (Reminder: Do not perform when the moon is void of course)

Supplies: Two pink taper candles, a picture of yourself, and a red heart cut out of construction paper.

Angels to call: Hahaiah, who inspires positive and loving thoughts, or Anael who is in charge of love, passion, and romance, Hael who inspires art, kindness, mercy, and beauty, or Muir who will find you a loyal friend (or heal a broken friendship), or you may perform a chant of angelic names such as:

Raphael, Rahmiel, Thelliel, Donquel, Anael, Liwet, Mihr.

Begin by working at your angel altar. Cleanse, consecrate and empower the pink candles. On the back of the heart write what you desire. warning: Do not call a specific person. That is against free will and the angels will not help you. Instead, call loving thoughts toward you-friendship, companionship, etc. Please be specific. Ground and center.

In a ritual you have designed by yourself, call your Guardian Angel/Spirit Guide and invoke both divinity and the angel you have chosen to help you. Be honest and forthright. Don't ask for what you really don't want. Be clear and operate only in harmony with the Universe.

Set the two pink candles about one foot apart with your picture in the middle, between the two candles. Place the heart on top of your picture. Light the candles and allow them to burn for five minutes. Move the two candles a little closer, then put them out.

Thank Divinity and the angels/spirit guides for helping you.

The next evening at the same time, repeat this procedure, and every night thereafter for 7 nights. On the 7th night, make sure both candle holders are touching the picture and the heart. Let the candles burn until there is nothing left. Take the heart and your picture (keeping them together), and put them in a safe place. When what you have called comes to you, be sure to go back to your altar and thank both Divinity and the angels for your good fortune. You may keep the heart and picture together as long as you like.
